Colour Matching and Colour Schemes

When the right colours are chosen the resulting effect can be fantastic. Your home or office can become a welcoming environment with the ‘wow’ factor. But if the colours don’t work it can be disappointing, for example if the colours are just too blah the room may appear lifeless, insipid or flat. If the colours are too bold the result can be jarring and offensive, and anything but restive. The best colours will highlight the most beautiful features of your room or will disguise any design flaws. Colours trigger our emotions. We find some colours restive and calming while others excite and stimulate our mind and still others are known for their healing effects.

When choosing colours do this with the colours of your fabric, carpet, tile or wallpaper in mind. Paint colours are not colours in isolation for the rest of your home or commercial building. Sometimes we are not repainting the entire exterior or interior of a building and may only be repairing or touching up an area of a wall or room. In this case it is important to get the colour matching accurate. You may be able to take a flake of paint from an existing wall and have this analysed at a paint shop.

Alternatively you can use a range of colour swatches held against the existing paintwork to help choose the best match.
